Born on July 2000 “THE” represents the ephemeral dimension of the Art/Life continuum. The ashes are glued to the painting by mean of spray glue which renders the ashes prone to falling; and the blue paint on the 36″ bamboo stick flakes off as well, part expression of ephemeral Art, part expression of impermanence. Both expressions of the Buddha’s philosophy. The gold tone / red tone contrast mimics a modern reinterpretation of the Yin-Yang; balance – and not struggle – between the opposite forces.
Approx 73.25″ x 59.5″ (186cm x 151cm) + 4″ (10cm) Buddha; acrylic, tempera, paint, glue, ashes, bamboo, Buddha’s head, and newspaper cutout on 10oz cotton duck canvas mounted on 2″ thick custom framing.
